Ingredients

  • Ground turkey patty 130 g
  • Whole wheat bun 1 small (50g)
  • Lettuce 40 g
  • Tomato slices 30 g
  • Mustard 1 tsp

Method

  1. Prepare the turkey patty. Take the ground turkey and form it gently into a patty about 1/2 inch thick and slightly wider than your bun, as it will shrink when cooking.
Tip: Avoid overworking the meat to keep the patty tender.
  2. Preheat the grill or pan. Heat your grill or non-stick pan to medium-high heat. If using a pan, you can lightly oil it to prevent sticking.
Tip: Make sure the grill or pan is hot before adding the patty for a good sear.
  3. Cook the turkey patty. Place the turkey patty on the grill or pan. Cook for about 5 minutes on one side without moving it to get a nice crust. Flip carefully and cook for another 4-5 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 74°C (165°F) and the meat is no longer pink.
Tip: Use a meat thermometer to check doneness for safety and juiciness.
  4. Prepare the bun and toppings. While the patty cooks, slice the tomato and wash the lettuce. Lightly toast the whole wheat bun on the grill or in a toaster for about 1-2 minutes until slightly crispy.
Tip: Toasting the bun adds texture and prevents it from getting soggy.
  5. Assemble the burger. Spread 1 teaspoon of mustard on the bottom half of the bun. Place the cooked turkey patty on top, then add the lettuce and tomato slices. Cover with the top half of the bun.
Tip: Arrange the lettuce and tomato evenly for balanced flavor in every bite.

Pro tips

  • If you don’t have a grill, a non-stick pan or grill pan works well for cooking the turkey burger.
  • Let the cooked patty rest for a minute before assembling to keep juices inside.
