Ingredients
- Ground turkey (93% lean) 150 g
- Whole wheat hamburger bun 1 piece
- Mixed greens (lettuce, spinach) 1 cup
- Tomato slices 2 slices
- Mustard 1 tbsp
- Olive oil 1 tsp
Method
-
Prepare the turkey patty.
Place the 150g of ground turkey in a bowl. Gently mix with your hands or a spoon to evenly distribute the meat. Form the mixture into a round patty about 1/2 inch thick, slightly larger than your bun since it will shrink while cooking.
Tip: Avoid overworking the meat to keep the patty tender. -
Preheat the grill or pan.
Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add 1 teaspoon of olive oil and let it warm up for about 30 seconds to prevent sticking.
Tip: A hot pan ensures a nice sear on the burger. -
Cook the turkey patty.
Place the turkey patty on the hot pan. Cook for about 5 minutes on the first side without moving it to develop a good crust. Flip carefully and cook for another 4-5 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the meat is no longer pink inside.
Tip: Use a meat thermometer for safety and best results. -
Toast the whole wheat bun.
While the patty finishes cooking, slice the whole wheat bun in half if not pre-sliced. Place it cut side down on the grill or pan for about 1-2 minutes until lightly toasted and golden brown.
Tip: Toasting adds flavor and prevents sogginess. -
Assemble the burger.
Spread 1 tablespoon of mustard evenly on the bottom half of the toasted bun. Place the cooked turkey patty on top. Add the 2 tomato slices and 1 cup of mixed greens over the patty. Cover with the top half of the bun.
Tip: Arrange the greens and tomato evenly for balanced flavor in every bite. -
Serve and enjoy.
Transfer the assembled burger to a plate. Optionally, serve with a side of fresh veggies or your favorite healthy side dish.
Tip: Let the burger rest a minute before eating to retain juices.
Pro tips
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure the turkey is fully cooked and safe to eat.
- Let the patty rest a minute after cooking to keep it juicy.
