Ingredients

  • Whole wheat spaghetti 180 g
  • Lean ground turkey 150 g
  • Tomato sauce (low sodium) 200 g
  • Olive oil 1 tbsp
  • Parmesan cheese 15 g

Method

  1. Prepare ingredients. Gather all ingredients. Measure out 180g of cooked whole wheat spaghetti, 150g of lean ground turkey, 200g of low sodium tomato sauce, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and 15g of grated Parmesan cheese.
Tip: Having everything ready before cooking helps the process go smoothly.
  2. Cook the spaghetti. Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a rolling boil. Add a pinch of salt to the water. Add the whole wheat spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente (usually 8-10 minutes). Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Tip: Taste a strand a minute before the recommended time to ensure it’s cooked to your liking.
  3. Drain the spaghetti. Once the spaghetti is cooked, carefully pour it into a colander to drain the water. Set aside.
Tip: Reserve a small cup of pasta water before draining in case you want to loosen the sauce later.
  4. Cook the ground turkey. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the lean ground turkey, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until the turkey is browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
Tip: Cook until no pink remains and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) for safety.
  5. Add the tomato sauce. Pour the 200g of tomato sauce into the skillet with the cooked turkey. Stir well to combine. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 4-5 minutes to blend the flavors.
Tip: If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.
  6. Combine spaghetti and sauce. Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the turkey tomato sauce. Toss gently to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.
Tip: Use tongs or two large forks to mix without breaking the pasta.
  7. Serve with Parmesan cheese. Divide the spaghetti and turkey sauce between two plates. Sprinkle each serving with 7.5g of grated Parmesan cheese.
Tip: Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Pro tips

  • Use whole wheat spaghetti for added fiber and nutrients compared to regular pasta.
  • Reserve pasta water to adjust sauce consistency if needed.
