Ingredients
- canned tuna in water 130 g
- light mayonnaise 2 tbsp
- celery 1/4 cup
- whole wheat bread 2 slices
- lettuce 1 cup
- tomato 3 slices
Method
-
Prepare the Tuna.
Open the canned tuna and drain the water completely using a sieve or by pressing the lid against the tuna. Place the drained tuna in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
Tip: Make sure to drain well so the salad isn’t watery. -
Chop the Celery.
Wash the celery stalks thoroughly. Using a sharp knife, chop the celery into small pieces about 1/4 inch in size. Add the chopped celery to the bowl with the tuna.
Tip: Cut the celery evenly for consistent crunch in every bite. -
Mix Tuna Salad.
Add 2 tablespoons of light mayonnaise to the tuna and celery in the bowl. Mix everything gently with a fork until well combined. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper if desired.
Tip: Mix gently to keep some texture in the tuna. -
Prepare the Bread and Vegetables.
Lay out 2 slices of whole wheat bread on a clean surface. Wash the lettuce leaves and tomato. Pat the lettuce dry with a paper towel. Slice the tomato into 3 even slices if not pre-sliced.
Tip: Dry lettuce helps prevent soggy bread. -
Assemble the Sandwich.
On one slice of bread, layer the lettuce evenly, then place the tomato slices on top. Spoon the tuna salad mixture evenly over the tomato. Finally, cover with the second slice of bread.
Tip: Press gently to help the sandwich hold together. -
Serve.
Cut the sandwich diagonally or in half if desired, and serve immediately for the best freshness and texture.
Tip: Serve with a side of fresh fruit or vegetable sticks for a balanced meal.
