Ingredients

  • Whole wheat tortilla 1 large (71g)
  • Turkey breast slices 4 oz (113g)
  • Avocado 1/4 medium (50g)
  • Lettuce 1 cup (36g)
  • Tomato slices 1/2 medium (60g)

Method

  1. Prepare the ingredients. Wash the lettuce leaves thoroughly under cold water, then dry them using a salad spinner or paper towels. Slice the tomato into thin rounds. Peel the avocado and cut it into thin slices.
Tip: Make sure the avocado is ripe by gently pressing it; it should give slightly without feeling mushy.
  2. Lay out the tortilla. Place the whole wheat tortilla flat on a clean cutting board or plate. This will be your base for assembling the wrap.
Tip: If the tortilla is stiff, warm it slightly in the microwave for 10 seconds to make it more pliable.
  3. Add the turkey slices. Evenly layer the turkey breast slices over the center of the tortilla, leaving about 1 inch of space on each side to make rolling easier.
Tip: Use lean turkey breast slices to keep the wrap healthy and low in fat.
  4. Add the vegetables. Place the lettuce leaves over the turkey slices, then add the tomato slices evenly on top. Finally, arrange the avocado slices over the veggies.
Tip: Try not to overload the wrap to avoid difficulty when rolling and to prevent it from breaking.
  5. Roll the wrap. Fold the sides of the tortilla inward about one inch, then start rolling tightly from the bottom up until the wrap is fully enclosed.
Tip: Keep the roll tight but gentle to avoid tearing the tortilla.
  6. Slice and serve. Use a sharp knife to cut the wrap diagonally in half for easier eating. Serve immediately or wrap in foil for later.
Tip: Cutting diagonally creates a nicer presentation and makes the wrap easier to hold.

Pro tips

  • To prevent the avocado from browning, squeeze a little lemon or lime juice on the slices before adding them to the wrap.
  • If you want extra flavor, add a light spread of mustard or low-fat mayo on the tortilla before layering the ingredients.
