Alcohol calories calculator

Estimate drink energy from volume and ABV — for logging, not dosing. Free, no signup.

Alcohol carries energy that often disappears from food logs. This free calculator estimates drink calories from volume and ABV using a standard ethanol density factor, with optional carbohydrate grams for beer and similar drinks. It is for educational logging—not a recommended dose and not a guide to how much you “can” drink.

The formula

Ethanol grams ≈ milliliters × (ABV ÷ 100) × 0.789. Alcohol calories ≈ ethanol grams × 7. Optional carbs add 4 kcal per gram. Presets cover common servings: beer 5% at 330 ml and 500 ml, wine 12% at 150 ml, spirits 40% at 40 ml, plus a custom volume/ABV row.

Mixers, cream liqueurs, and dessert wines can add sugar beyond the ethanol estimate. If you know carbs from a label, enter them; otherwise treat the alcohol-only number as a lower bound.

Logging tone, not dosing

The page never suggests a “safe number of drinks” or a binge target. Optional daily calorie target only shows what share of your energy budget one serving represents—so weekend surprises make sense on the scale. Empty calories still count toward surplus.

If you do not drink, you do not need this tool. If you do, logging honestly beats guessing zero. FreeNutri is not a bar app and ships only a handful of educational presets.

How it fits with other FreeNutri tools

Use the calorie calculator for daily targets and the macro calculator when you want protein/fat/carb structure around a night that included drinks. Alcohol is not a macro in the same sense as food protein—treat it as energy that displaces other intake.

Limitations

ABV on the bottle can differ from pour size at a bar. Home measures vary. The density factor 0.789 is a common approximation for pure ethanol in water—not a lab assay of your cocktail.

Frequently asked questions

How are alcohol calories estimated?

Ethanol g ≈ ml × (ABV/100) × 0.789, then ×7 kcal/g. Optional carbs add 4 kcal/g.

Which presets are included?

Beer 5% 330/500 ml, wine 12% 150 ml, spirits 40% 40 ml, plus custom ml + ABV.

Is this a drinking recommendation?

No. Educational logging only—not a recommended dose and not medical advice.

Why include carbs?

Beer and some drinks add carbohydrate energy beyond ethanol. Enter grams when you know them.

What does daily target % mean?

Optional: total drink kcal divided by your daily calorie target, as a percentage.

Is it free?

Yes—no signup. Related: calorie and macro calculators.
